Board of Directors' Message...

MaryAnne Haines spearheaded the original fabric and framework of the GIL Foundation. On the cutting edge of community integration for special needs individuals, she founded the organization as a local nonprofit in 1985. Initially, GIL was established as an agency which primarily focused on providing structured summer and weekend activity programs for autistic and developmentally disabled children within the local community. MaryAnne decided to organize the nonprofit “Grounded In Love”, when she discovered the absence of local programs available to serve and supplement her autistic daughter’s regular schooling at the time. Her primary objective expanded to give kids, including her daughter, something structured to keep them from regressing prior to returning to school. Thus the programs provided a niche; the organization was born, and has subsequently expanded systematically over the years. MaryAnne continues to maintain a emeritus role with the GIL Board of Directors. The GIL Board wishes to acknowledge her courage and resolve. MaryAnne’s vision and spirit provided the springboard for more than two decades of dedicated nonprofit community service.
